I'm In Love...

I'm In Love...

With my first Kawandi-style lap blanket. I’ve worked on it for the past week, promising myself that no negative thoughts were allowed to take up space in my brain while  stitching. Only kindness, peace, and a quiet contentment that comes from sewing by hand. I was able to keep that promise most of the time, so this process has definitely become my go-to for calming self-care.

The fabrics include cuttings from one of my mom’s tender little hankies when she was a teenager; softly worn napkins which I imagine graced someone’s Thanksgiving table at one time; thin cotton sheets, and so much more.

I even love the feel of it. The pucker of the offbeat backing has such a lovely tactile quality. Just stroking it is soothing.

To me, the magic of Kawandi is how, in the end, all the patches embrace their differences to ultimately complement each other, making the whole so much stronger.
