My First Kawandi!

My first kawandi – a table runner!! My stitching looks like a circus of drunken ants, but I love the fabric combinations and how I felt when I created this. Calm, serene, peaceful. And most of all, with a feeling that I am connected to something much larger than just me sewing in my little sunroom.

Some major lessons learned with this first piece. I purchased a wool pressing mat that works beautifully, in lieu of keeping my ironing board up. Just put a piece of cardboard underneath to protect my dining room table. I also found that at the beginning I like sitting in a chair and doing my stitching but towards the end it's easier to sit at my dining room table and stitch, kind of using the table as a frame. My stitching was all sizes so have to get much better at that, but still - this piece brings me so much joy!

I'm officially hooked. Next project will be a scarf!
