The Deep Power of Naming
Naming my work has always been important to me. For Kawandi-inspired pieces, especially, names are not labels, they are witnesses. They say, “This piece exists; the moment matters, and these hands were here.
In a world of mass production, a name slows the viewer down; it invites a relationship ; it turns an object into a story; and it honors the time, labor, and attention given to its creation.
To name something is to bless it and to bless it is to love it publicly and for posterity.
Meet my newest piece. On her way to finding a final form, I’m calling her Comfort For Uncertain Days or Comfort, for short.
